A study on College Athletes.. Indian Journal of Psychology. 122-126. Sportspersons give it their all to carve a niche for themselves in their sport. However there is very little attention given to understand why athletes continue to pursue their sport despite the varied hardships faced enroute to achieving sports excellence. Participation and persistence in sport can be largely influenced by Passion. According to Vallerand when individuals are seen to be passionate about a particular activity, it is pursued for several years and probably life time. Identifying with the sport and pursuing sport at a competitive level, leads to the development of Athlete Identity ( Brewer et al 1993). The study investigates the relationship between Passion and Athlete Identity among college athletes. 250 college athletes drawn from different colleges were the selected sample. The analysis and findings support the relationship between Athlete Identity and Passion among sportspersons and also gender differences emerging on both Passion and Athlete Identity.
